Fire Compartmentation Installation

​We understands that there is often a combination of factors that need to be considered before recommending and implementing the best fire protection solution for our clients. For example which product is most cost effective for the job, which products are easiest and fastest to install, which solution requires less maintenance, which solution is better suited to the operating conditions of the space or building, how does the passive fire protection solution recommended integrate with the other components of the fire protection system.

​Fire rated partitions, ceilings and floors are essential to ensure effective fire compartmentation and they are a fundamental component of any fire safety design. Fire compartmentation is basically the division of a building into “sterile” compartments, using building materials that will protect against the progression of fire and it’s associated components, flames, smoke and toxic gases, from traveling from one compartment to another. The longer the fire stopping solutions can prevent the transfer of these key deadly components then the more likely that safe evacuation of the building will be achieved.

​Restricting a fire and it’s components, flames, smoke and toxic gases, to its point of origin is a crucial component of effective fire stopping and passive fire protection of a building. It is important to preserve structural integrity of building compartments where communications, services, utilities, etc go through fire resisting walls. Key areas to consider are;

- construction linear joints
- apertures and penetrations via floors and walls
- cavity barriers
- service openings (e.g Ducts), within wall surfaces and floors
- combustible pipes and cables

There are a wide range of passive fire protection solutions and Fire-stopping products that can be utilised to effectively seal penetrations, apertures and openings within a building’s fire compartments.

These include; fire batts, covers, mastic sealants, fireboards, collars, mortars, fire curtains, putties and pillows.

​Fire doors perform a vital fire-stopping role within a building’s fire protection compartmentation function and a significant visual aesthetic role in any building.

Fire doors are designed to slow the progress of a fire and its components – flame, smoke and toxic gases, by halting it’s spread from compartment to compartment within the building. They play an essential role in safeguarding escape routes out of the building and ensuring that safe evacuation of the building is more likely to be achieved.

We offer a wide variety of fire doors that will meet not only your fire strategy requirements but the aesthetic requirements of your building space too!. All fire doors and ironmongery fitted by PLD  are certificated under BS/EN product standards and all associated hardware is CE marked.

​PLD can provide Fire doors in a variety of timber, metal and composite materials. They can range from simple, single-leaf pedestrian doors, used extensively in residential accommodation, through to large, power operated steel doors used to protect industrial buildings

Fire doors are rated for fire separation capabilities and tested in terms of the time period before the complete failure of the fire door. The common ratings are known in UK Building Regulations as FD30 and FD60 providing of 30 or 60 mins fire resistance appropriately.

A fire door is not just a “door leaf” The door frame, it’s hinges, handles, glasses panels, ironmongery and seals must all work in combination to ensure the fire door provides optimum and appropriate fire resistance. It is essential therefore that fire doors are fitted by fully trained and qualified installers.
